Reece looked up, the brick wall seemed to stretch on into eternity. The thirty-foot ascent wouldn’t be easy, she took the colored chalk that she had stolen from the nursery out of her pocket. She rolled the smooth surface in between her hands, sending a fine blue mist around her palms. The cool morning air rejuvenated her; soon, she would be over the wall and into the city to find her parents. She lifted her arm and foot in sync, her fingertips digging into the miniscule crack of filling in the brick wall. She lifted her body, nobody that she knew of had ever attempted this before and come back without any injury. The heat was starting to bring its scorching fingers down on the desert, the buildings behind her illuminating with light. Sweat dived down her forhead and into her eyes, her arms and knees trembling with exhaustion. She was determined.
Eyes locked on the finish, she steadied her eyes on the horizon of stone. “SLAM!” A door slammed closed, the warden was up. As he strutted down within the high walls Reece remained as still as stone, her head began to spin. If she was caught, who knew what punishments she would face? In the warden’s hand was a thin red leash and at the other end of the leash was a small terrier whom he was giving her daily walk.
Reece tried to keep still, but the sweat wouldn’t stop. Her hair began to drip, the loose strands that had fallen out of her ponytail were seared with wetness.

Bindi, the West Highland Terrier strutted down the path walking her master. The warden (whom of which no one knew his name) walked taking in the security of his wonderful maturity unit. The small white dog suddenly picked up a salty smell coming from the sky, too strong to be a bird. She looked up to see Reece clinging for life on the brick wall.
“Yap! Yap!” she alarmed while looking up, the warden followed her gaze in amazement. He whipped out his 2 way and screamed: “WEVE GOT A RUNAWAY, ALL GUARDS HERE NOW!”

Reece’s heart fell like it would burst, her eyes widened. She was living her own nightmare, her eyes darted up and down and her head swiveled nervously. She had been caught doing something no one had even dared for 10 years.
